Ted’s art glass

“Poplar Tree”

Using an acid resist, I drew an image of a poplar tree onto a sheet of thin brass. I then submerged the brass into an acid bath to create a piece of filigree matching the drawing.  I used this piece of filigree as a resist for sandblasting the tree design onto a piece of blue- green flashed glass carving through the blue layer to reveal the light green. After sandblasting, the piece of filigree was laminated to the opposite side of the glass to obscure the etched area but, because of the thickness of the glass, light comes through the edges of the tree filigree when viewed from different angles. The effect adds movement to the tree design.  The panel is assembled with lead came and measures 17” x  20.5”.
